During the festival, the region’s delicacy – the lamprey, fished from the Saka River by Pāvilosta’s own fishermen – is honored.
During the council meeting, representatives of Liepāja 2027 reported on the status of program content development, including the utilization of allocated funding, updates on team building and event planning, and marketing and communication plans, as well as attracting sponsors and partners.
The programme is designed to actively engage young people in the cultural development of Liepāja as the European Capital of Culture 2027.
During these three days our team had an inspiring study trip where we explored how to create a more efficient European Capital of Culture programme, focusing on key themes like regional cooperation, foreign marketing, social inclusion, and accessibility.
From culture and arts to sports, business, and community initiatives, the city will come alive with activities designed to engage locals and visitors.
11 masterclasses will be held across Liepāja, South Kurzeme, and Kuldīga between 1 November and 30 April 2025.
In total, 11 projects were submitted, with the top 5 receiving funding to implement their ideas during the event.
This initiative seeks bids for an installation that will become a signature landmark in the city’s urban landscape. The competition deadline for entries is 25 November 2024.

To promote Liepāja as the European Capital of Culture in 2027, the Foundation “Liepāja 2027” officially launched the Liepāja 2027 Ambassadors Programme on Saturday, 28 September, during a vibrant event in the city.
