From 7 September to 12 October 2026, the people of Liepāja are invited to take part in a public vote choosing four values that represent their city. These values – a personality, a place, an event and a symbol – will shape the artistic storyline of “Human Forest”, the opening event of Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027.

On Saturday, 12 September, from 13.00 to 16.00, the Open Courtyard Festival will take place in the historic centre of Aizpute.

Today, August 26, the Liepāja 2027 Cultural Breakfast took place at the Liepāja Latvian Society House, bringing together representatives of the culture industry and collaboration partners.

On August 22 of this year, as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme, Aizpute Renaissance Society organized a creative workshop “The Path of (un)rest Light: The Story of Aizpute” in Aizpute. During the event, participants had their first opportunity to extensively test a prototype of a cardboard light installation developed specifically for the project.

For four days, Liepāja became a place where theatre was experienced truly up close – through the stories, movement, music, words, and emotions of artists from various countries.

The international theatre festival “Theatre in Close-Up,” held as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme, was opened by the Klaipėda Drama Theatre with the performance “The Return.”

For four days – from Thursday, August 20, through Sunday, August 23 – theatre enthusiasts will have the opportunity to experience performances, discussions, director’s sketches, play readings, and much more!

As part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra’s annual summer musical journey – the South Kurzeme Festival “Rimbenieks” – concluded on Sunday, 16 August, with a spectacular concert at Kazdanga Culture Centre.

On Saturday, 15 August, Karosta hosted the seventh Lāčplēša Garden Festival, with this year’s theme being “Peace in Karosta”.

On Saturday, August 29, in Vārme Parish, Kuldīga Municipality, as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme, a guided walk will take place in the Polīši Ravines — a place where the calm and energy of nature meet along forest trails, steep sandstone outcrops, and the lively flow of the Šķēde River.
