The cross-disciplinary environmental forum “Nature Trouble”, organized by Liepāja 2027, has successfully concluded after a full day of events at Liepāja’s “Kursa” Club, inviting participants to explore the future of human–nature relationship.
On Saturday, 19 August at 16:00, the banks of the Ālande River in Grobiņa will come alive with the opening of the new environmental art trail “Face to Face with the Natural”, created by the Liepāja 2027 Foundation as part of the European Capital of Culture programme.
For tow summer days, the beating heart of Kuldīga – Latvia’s jewel in the UNESCO crown – will cheer to the rhythm of street concerts, artist happenings, secret garden gigs and chatter at the market with some pleasant surprises awaiting in the small streets of the old town.
On the weekend of 5 July, a new series of masterclasses and discussions “From Know-How to Do-How” was opened with an event at Liepāja Peter’s Market, focusing on historical heritage and offering practical creative workshops for all family. The programme promotes the preservation of cultural heritage and encourages sustainable practices as a new standard of living.
On Saturday, 5 July at 12:00, everyone who is keen about preservation, restoration and renovation of historical heritage are welcome to attend an outdoor event for the whole family at Liepāja Peter’s Market. The programme highlight is going to be a public discussion titled “Historical Heritage in Today’s Context,” and practical workshops for participants of all ages.
On July 9, a unique event “A Cultural Adventure Touching on Rock” will take place at the cultural venue “Pegaza Pagalms” in Liepāja inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the world of Latvian rock music and explore its influence on social change.
In 2027, not only will Liepāja hold the title of European Capital of Culture, but so too will the Portuguese city of Évora. To celebrate this cultural partnership, families attending the Sea Festival are invited to experience a performance by Évora-based puppeteer, creator, and researcher Manuel Costa Dias, titled “Puppets of My Life”.
As the sun reaches its zenith and ancient fires prepare to blaze once more, Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 invites locals and guests to welcome the magic of the summer solstice with a celebration of Baltic and Nordic unity. On 23 June at 19:30, “Nordic Solstice” will unfold in Seaside Park and on the beach combining solstice traditions, nature rituals and music.
Continuing the revived rock festival tradition, the second edition of “Rock for Freedom” will take place on July 5 at the Skrunda open-air stage.
Highlighting and promoting the values of our traditional culture and heritage, on 23 June 2025, from 19:30 until the early hours, the Seaside Park and beach of Liepāja will come alive with the rhythms, rituals and revelry of Nordic Solstice – a new international celebration of summer’s turning point.
