Continuing the revived rock festival tradition, the second edition of “Rock for Freedom” will take place on July 5 at the Skrunda open-air stage.

Highlighting and promoting the values of our traditional culture and heritage, on 23 June 2025, from 19:30 until the early hours, the Seaside Park and beach of Liepāja will come alive with the rhythms, rituals and revelry of Nordic Solstice – a new international celebration of summer’s turning point. On 29 May, the Liepāja 2027 Foundation presented a new gift to the city in honour of its 400th anniversary — a large-scale mural by artist Kristaps Tinte, titled “Laipnības patvērums” (Haven of Grace).

On 12 July, the Liepāja 2027 Foundation will shine a spotlight on how to live with nature rather than against it by hosting an cross-disciplinary forum titled “Nature Trouble”. This ecological brainstorming marks the opening act of the programme cycle “Agora of Values”, part of the Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 initiative.

On Saturday, May 17, the Liepāja club “KURSA” will host the first-ever “Rock Revolūcija” rock music festival. This event promises to become a highlight in Latvia’s alternative music scene, combining concerts, panel discussions, and the opportunity for music enthusiasts of different generations to come together.

On 10 May, the European Capital of Culture – Liepāja 2027 – gathered its newest addition to the ambassadors’ team for their very first meeting. Thirty-two energetic and inspiring individuals from Liepāja, Kuldīga and South Kurzeme came together, having earned their title through a highly competitive selection process.

On Friday 9 May, communities across Liepāja, Kuldīga and the South Kurzeme region joined in creativity and conversation, as Europe Day was celebrated with a rich and varied programme organised by “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027.”

Liepāja blossoms — quite literally — as the Liepāja Blossoms! campaign is in full swing, celebrating the city’s 400th anniversary.

On 30 April, the foundation Liepāja 2027 launched its contemporary art exhibition “Concerns. Crazy Days” at Liepāja’s Peter’s Market, setting the tone with a performance that caught many visitors by surprise.

On May 4 at 12:00, in the spirit of the Day of Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia, the Ziemupe Breakfast and the Opening of the Song Chest will take place in the centre of Ziemupe.
