An open workshop led by choreographer Kristīne Brīniņa and the Priekule Day Center is scheduled for Monday, October 12. During the residency, participants will work together to create a “movement ritual”, using the body, movement, and repetition as means of communication and collaboration.

Kristīne Brīniņa is an independent choreographer, producer and performer. She graduated from the Latvian Academy of Culture with a degree in contemporary dance choreography and from the Liepāja Academy of the Riga Technical University with a master’s degree in creative writing; she also studied new media art at the University of Liepāja. In her practice, she works with documentary performing arts and her self-developed “documentary dance method”, exploring ways to translate real people’s experiences into the language of the stage. Central to her work is a direct and empathetic encounter between the documentary material, the performer, and the audience. She has received the Latvian Theater Award “Spēlmaņu nakts”, the Liepāja Culture Award, and the DANCE.LV Editorial Award for her work.

The workshop will also feature writer Laura Vinogradova, who will capture the artist’s experience within the community in written form. Laura Vinogradova writes prose and experiences the world. For several years now, she has been leading creative writing classes for children and adults.

Space in the workshop is limited, and registration is required by calling or emailing Lība Bērziņa – phone: +371 28 649 014.
