“Illuminated Liepāja” Festival of Lights
SU 21-03-2027
As part of “Opera by the Sea”, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra is putting on this Baroque evening with Guntis Kuzma conducting, and the real centre of it all is Luciana Mancini – the Chilean‑Swedish mezzo‑soprano. She is one of those performers who steps on stage, and everything sharpens; there is this charge in the air, and her voice has a depth that stays with you long after she’s finished.
And there is a proper treat along the evening – a world premiere. Arturs Maskats has written a brand‑new song cycle just for this night. Maskats has been a major name in Latvia since the ’80s – close to hundred theatre scores, film music – and his piece “Tango” even made it to the finals of London’s “Masterprize” competition back in 2003. The composer picked up several Latvian Grand Music Awards over the years as well.
Performers: Luciana Mancini (mezzo‑soprano), Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, conductor Guntis Kuzma.
