“Banned Images” presents works by international photographers and artists whose work has been censored in Europe during the 21st century for various reasons. It will explore how society, institutions and state authorities respond to uncomfortable themes or controversial subjects, and how censorship shapes public space.
Based on academic research, the exhibition provides historical and social context to help people understand why images are censored and what consequences follow. An educational programme encourages dialogue and makes complex topics accessible to a wider audience.
