Ever wondered what boredom looks like in the middle of Japan’s most jam-packed city? As part of the “Japan Through European Eyes | Japan Today” residency, architect and photographer Pauls Rietums went to Kyoto to capture the last pockets of peace and quiet in a city bursting with tourists. Using boredom as a bit of an artistic secret weapon is a clever strategy for keeping the sanity in today’s fast-paced world. Pauls Rietums’ large-format photos in Liepāja’s urban landscape encourage us to appreciate the open, breathing spaces in the places we share every day.
