Media Art and Technology Festival “Update”

The project aims to establish an educational programme offering participants a broader international perspective in media art and technology. By engaging technology professionals and artists, the programme will create a public platform that enriches Liepāja’s cultural scene with distinctive media and digital art experiences.

Three media art and technology festivals are planned for 2025, 2026, and 2027, each featuring a variety of workshops and masterclasses for both professionals and enthusiasts. Each festival will conclude with an exhibition showcasing the outcomes of the workshops alongside works by international artists.

Public Programme for visitors in Liepāja

• Monday, September 28, at 17:00, in the Pegaza courtyard (20 Kuršu Street) – festival opening featuring a symposium with artists and researchers and sound art performances. Special guest – sound artist Felicity Mangan (Germany), who creates sensory vibration performances that are also accessible to visitors with hearing impairments.
• Friday, October 2, at 14:00 – public presentations of the results and prototypes from the festival workshops at the RTU Liepāja Academy’s Art Research Laboratory (MPLab, Kūrmājas pr. 13, basement level, entrance from the courtyard).
• Friday, October 2, at 20:00 at the digital culture centre “Savādā realitāte” (Roņu iela 8a) – Concert and performances. Special guests: Latvian experimental electronic music producer and sound artist EIII and Estonian sound artist Sander Saarmets.
• Saturday, October 3, from 12:00 to 14:00, “Demo Day” will take place at MPLab, where visitors will have access to an exhibition of workshop results and creative and technological activities related to the festival’s theme, led by local and international artists. The recommended age for workshop participants is 10 and up. Participation in the workshops is free of charge.
