Liepāja Opera Festival “Opera by the Sea”. Marina Rebeka and Liepāja Symphony Orchestra

The sun slowly glides across the sea, creeping closer to the horizon. The summer heat still lingers in the air, but a brisk breeze drifting through the park brings a refreshing coolness straight off the water. Up in the trees, the birds are chirping the overture to “Opera by the Sea”.

The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Guntis Kuzma, is laying on a grand summer opera gala concert at the “Pūt, vējiņi!” concert garden. Stepping into the spotlight for the evening is the phenomenal Latvian soprano Marina Rebeka – one of the proudest Latvian musical exports, whose voice has raised the roof in the world’s most famous opera houses. She will be sharing the stage with the French tenor Julien Behr, a sought-after soloist across Europe thanks to his dazzling timbre and expressive flair.
