Plan your trip:

The principal artistic aim of the project “ElektrON – The Future of Amber” is to examine amber – a defining symbol of identity for Liepāja and the entire “(un)rest Land” – from a different angle, exploring properties that are often overlooked and reassessing conventional perceptions of this fossil resource found along the Baltic Sea coast. To look beyond amber as a static icon of cultural heritage, framing it as a material rich in history and filled with future possibilities.

Through creative residencies and a symposium organised with the “VV Foundation”, artists, scientists and historians from Latvia and abroad examined amber and other fossil resources, exploring how they have shaped human understanding and how they might be used in years to come. These ideas are now integrated into artworks shown in the closing exhibition at the Liepāja Museum.
