Plan your trip:

This project focuses on preserving the cultural and historical environment – the genius loci, or spirit of place – of towns in Kurzeme. Each town’s unique identity is shaped by its history, heritage and community stories. The programme covers three directions: timber carpentry and restoration, historic gardening traditions, and the sustainable care of old buildings.

Project activities include:

  • an international restoration workshop for craftspeople and practical sessions for local residents on sustainable maintenance of historic buildings and constructional parts;
  • an international forum “The Diversity of World Woodworking and its Restoration” on 12 March 2027;
  • a contemporary‑circus performance “Sawdust Symphony” on 11 March 2027, with artists from Austria and Germany;
  • a lecture series in 2026 on sustainable gardening in historic gardens;
  • on 4 May 2027, the opening of a blossoming garden trail through Kuldīga’s Old Town, linking ten themed gardens and offering a sense of the Old Town’s courtyard atmosphere, accompanied by lectures and creative workshops;
    on 4 May 2027, the glass‑design exhibition “Botanical Impressions” will be displayed in the Old Town gardens, curated by Iveta Brence and featuring artists Vika Šulca, Solvita Bruže, Marta Ģibiete, Inita Ēmane and Laura Rostoka.
