Liepāja 2027 Launches Open Call for Cultural Tourism Projects “Land of (un)rest, Tell Us Stories!”

Where rest meets unrest, stories are born. In the spirit of this paradox, the Liepāja 2027 Foundation invites bold ideas for cultural tourism through its open competition “Land of (Un)rest, Tell Us Stories!” – a call to reimagine how visitors experience the region during Liepāja’s year as European Capital of Culture. Deadline for submissions: 23:59 on 1 December 2025.

Opportunity for artists to join Oulu2026 – European Capital of Culture program

In July 2025, the Liepāja 2027 Foundation, in cooperation with the Japanese non-profit organisation “EU – Japan Fest,” invited Latvian photographers to apply for the international residency project “European Eyes on Japan | Japan Today”. 64 photographers submitted applications, and 15 of them were shortlisted for the second round.

On Saturday, 22 November, the second meeting of the Liepāja 2027 youth programme took place. During the visit, participants explored the Kuldīga Museum and the cultural space “Brīvības Osta” in Aizpute to learn about the stories, daily life, and challenges of these places.

A quarter of Liepāja residents – 25% – are involved in preparations for Liepāja as European Capital of Culture, according to the latest population survey carried out this autumn by the market and social research centre “Latvijas Fakti”.
