In the spirit of this paradox, the Liepāja 2027 Foundation invites bold ideas for cultural tourism through its open competition “Land of (Un)rest, Tell Us Stories!” – a call to reimagine how visitors experience the region during Liepāja’s year as European Capital of Culture. On Wednesday, 26 November, the first training cycle for masters of applied studies in Liepāja — the “Master in the Classroom” stage of the project “Skill Exchange Platform “Skill Market”” — concluded at Liepāja Secondary School of Music, Art and Design.
The city of Valladolid, Spain, has announced an open call and invites illustrators, photographers, and new media artists to submit their projects for the 13th edition of the “CreaVA 2026” festival, which will take place from April 24 to May 30, 2026. Application deadline: January 18.
In July 2025, the Liepāja 2027 Foundation, in cooperation with the Japanese non-profit organisation “EU – Japan Fest,” invited Latvian photographers to apply for the international residency project “European Eyes on Japan | Japan Today”. 64 photographers submitted applications, and 15 of them were shortlisted for the second round.
On Saturday, 22 November, the second meeting of the Liepāja 2027 youth programme took place. During the visit, participants explored the Kuldīga Museum and the cultural space “Brīvības Osta” in Aizpute to learn about the stories, daily life, and challenges of these places.
A quarter of Liepāja residents – 25% – are involved in preparations for Liepāja as European Capital of Culture, according to the latest population survey carried out this autumn by the market and social research centre “Latvijas Fakti”.
