The residency will take place in Kuldīga in August 2027. Applications open until November 15, 2026.
From February 1 to June 13, 2027, as well as from July 1 to 31, 2027, wide range initiatives will take place across Liepāja and the Kuldīga and South Kurzeme Municipalities, aimed at strengthening communities, promoting resident participation, and building cooperation.
During the residency, the artists met with local residents and explored the history, traditions and everyday life of the towns and villages, transforming their experiences into a variety of artworks – from illustrations and photography to a composition of wooden objects and a piece of jewellery.
On Friday, 9 October, the Liepāja 2027 Foundation (“Nodibinājums Liepāja 2027”) entered into a partnership with SIA “Transporent”, the SIXT franchise partner in the Baltic States and Finland.
On October 9, at Jānis Čakste Square, as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme, the open-air photography exhibition “One Day in Liepāja 1987–2007–2025” was opened, inviting visitors to travel through time and see Liepāja and its people across different decades.
In 2027, it will bring together more than 500 local and international cultural and artistic events in Liepāja and the South Kurzeme and Kuldīga regions. The programme also includes cultural tourism offers and initiatives that will build the capacity of cultural sector professionals and encourage the involvement of young people and local communities.
The project competition “Manor House Hackathon,” organised by the foundation “Nodibinājums Liepāja 2027” (Liepāja 2027), has concluded. In it, eight cultural venues from the Kuldīga and South Kurzeme regions developed new ideas for bringing historic buildings back to life.
From 29 September to 1 October, representatives of Liepāja 2027 took part in an ECOC Echo project partner meeting in Chemnitz, Germany.
On October 9, 2026, in Liepāja, as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme, an open-air photography exhibition titled “One Day in Liepāja 1987–2007 – 2025,” which, through images taken in three different years, will reveal the life of the city and its people over the course of half a century.
On Wednesday, 30 September, the Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 Supervisory Board held its latest meeting, during which Board members were updated on progress to date, the implementation of the programme and preparations for the key events of 2027. Particular attention was given to the opening programme for the European Capital of Culture year in January.
