“5K – five cultural spaces, one story” is a cultural‑tourism project rooted in heritage, linking five distinct cultural spaces in Kurzeme – Bārta, Nīca, Rucava, the Curonian Kings, also known as Curonian chieftains (kuršu ķoniņi) and the Suiti – within the European Capital of Culture 2027 programme. The project invites visitors to explore what makes each space unique, as well as the threads that connect them.
From February to September, five seasonal events highlight themes characteristic of each cultural space and their contemporary interpretations: February in Nīca – “Evening Gatherings and Carnival Masks”, April at the Curonian Kings cultural space – “Family Roots”, May in Bārta – “Traditional Costume and Identity”, July in Rucava – “St Anna’s Day – Flavours and Stories” and September with Suiti – “St Michael’s Day”.
Each cultural centre hosts the “Traveller’s Exhibition”, which ties the five experiences into one narrative. Visitors become “exhibition travellers”, uncovering the shared story by moving through all five locations.
By presenting these cultural spaces as parts of a single journey, the project strengthens cultural tourism, raises awareness of traditional culture and connects local heritage with international perspectives.
