Liepāja and Tartu join forces to develop the regional film industry

30. January, 2026

In 28–29 January, Liepāja 2027 and colleagues from the city, took part in “Filmlink” project working visit to Tartu. The project is part of the Interreg Estonia–Latvia Programme and is set to make a significant contribution to the growth of Liepāja’s creative industries.

On day one, they attendedan experience-sharing seminar, gaining insights into film industry practices from Germany, Finland, Estonia, and Lithuania – including film festivals, funds, and studios. On day two, visited sTARTUp Day to build connections, learn, and immerse themselves in a startup mindset.

FILMLINK helps two film regions – Tartu and Liepāja – to better understand and strengthen the cultural, social, and economic impact of filmmaking. By sharing knowledge, analysing experiences, and collaborating, the project lays the groundwork for a long-term cross-border partnership in the Baltic film industry. For Liepāja, FILMLINK is part of its Kino Sapnis / Film Days programme, one of the thematic pillars of Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027.

The total budget of the FILMLINK project is €87,357.50, of which €39,175 has been allocated to Liepāja. This includes €31,340 (80%) from the Interreg Estonia-Latvia programme and €7,835 (20%) in co-financing from the Liepāja City Municipality. The project will run until the end of 2026.

Thanks to our colleagues at Tartu Film Fund for their hospitality and advice! Looking forward to the next working sessions – online and in April in Liepāja.
