Applications Open for Liepāja Cultural Project Competition

5. August, 2026

The Liepāja Culture Department has announced the second cultural project competition of 2026, inviting applications for financial support for the implementation of significant, unique and traditional cultural projects in Liepāja. Applications can be submitted until 24 August. The competition is open to project organisers working across a range of cultural and artistic disciplines, as well as interdisciplinary projects and the creative industries.

The aim of the competition is to support cultural activities that promote access to and the development of a modern and intellectually stimulating cultural environment in Liepāja, provide a high-quality and diverse cultural offering, and increase access to traditional and contemporary culture for different groups within society.

The competition welcomes projects that propose new and innovative ideas, encourage creativity, cross-sector collaboration and public participation in cultural life, and make cultural values more accessible to a wider audience. Funding is available for projects that identify, research, document and promote Liepāja’s cultural and historical heritage, as well as cultural processes, music, art, film, theatre, design and architecture. Priority will also be given to annual non-commercial cultural and artistic events that are significant to Liepāja and its surrounding areas, including activities with the potential to become new local traditions.

The competition also provides support for the organisation of masterclasses, lectures, seminars and other educational activities in the cultural and creative industries, as well as for international cultural and artistic residencies in Liepāja.

The co-financing provided by the Liepāja Culture Department ranges from €1,500 to €4,000 per project. For projects where activities are free of charge to visitors, co-financing may cover up to 80% of the project’s total budget. For projects that generate ticket revenue, co-financing may not exceed 50% of the total project costs. The total funding available through the competition is €50,000.

Applicants may submit an unlimited number of projects; however, the total amount of funding that any one applicant may receive through the competition may not exceed €8,000.

The competition is open to legal entities registered in the Register of Enterprises of the Republic of Latvia, excluding state or local government institutions, state or local government-owned companies, and derived public entities. Individuals, including self-employed persons registered with the State Revenue Service, are not eligible to apply.

Projects must be implemented in Liepāja between 1 October 2026 and 31 March 2027.

Applications must be submitted electronically by 24 August 2026, inclusive, by completing the application form on the website www.kulturasprojektukonkurss.lv.

Submitted projects will be assessed by the Cultural Project Competition Commission in accordance with the administrative and quality criteria set out in the competition regulations. Decisions on the projects to be supported will be made no later than two weeks after the application deadline. Applicants will be notified of the competition results by email at the addresses provided in their applications.
