On the summer solstice, Saturday, June 20, from 10:00 – 18:00 a community cleanup event will take place at Polīšu Ravine in Vārme Parish, Kuldīga Municipality, as a part of the public participation projects in the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme. During the event, participants will have the opportunity to explore the unique landscape of Polīšu Ravine and the sandstone outcrops along the banks of the Šķēde River. Volunteers will help clean and maintain the nature trail and create wooden signs for visitors. From 16:00 participants will also be invited to relax and enjoy a country sauna.
How to get there? The Polīši Ravines are located in Vārme Parish, Kuldīga Municipality. The site can be accessed from the direction of the “Māli” homestead in Šķēde Parish, Saldus Municipality. Please wear comfortable clothing and sturdy footwear suitable for outdoor work. Work gloves will be provided, although you are welcome to bring your own.
This event is part of the project “Relief: Polīši Ravines in Kuldīga Municipality”, which implements a community-building programme based on cooperation, participation, and shared responsibility for the preservation of the Polīši Ravines. Located on the edge of the Land of (un)rest in Vārme Parish, the Polīši Ravines are a unique natural area where peaceful forest trails, steep sandstone cliffs, and the ever-changing flow of the Šķēde River come together to create a landscape shaped by both tranquillity and natural forces.
The event is organized by the association “KONTYNIUUM” and with financial support from the foundation “Nodibinājums Liepāja 2027.” The programme of “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” is implemented by the Liepāja 2027 Foundation, with funding allocated by the City of Liepāja, the South Kurzeme and Kuldīga municipalities, and the Ministry of Culture. On Friday, June 12, from 17:00 to 18:00 everyone interested is invited to participate in an ideas workshop for the project “(un)Peaceful Path of Light: The Story of Aizpute,” which will take place at Pilskrogs, 20 Liepājas Street, Aizpute, as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme.
On Saturday, June 13, as part of the public engagement projects of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme, the first Ezerkrasts Picnic will take place – a community gathering aimed at helping neighbours get to know one another, share ideas, and jointly shape the future of the Ezerkrasts neighbourhood.
On Saturday, June 6, the event “Together at the Bread Table”, organized by the association “Kuršu Kopiena”, took place in Rucava as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme.
