On Saturday, June 6, as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme, the event “Together at the Bread Table” will take place in Rucava – a creative, hands-on, and heartfelt gathering for residents of all ages.
The event will begin at 10:30 with a masterclass on preparing natural health elixirs led by wild plant expert Vaira Kārkliņa. Then, at 13:00, participants will bake traditional bread together with Rucava hostess Gunita Pūre, make white butter, and enjoy a shared meal. The programme will also include discussions on issues important to the local community, the creation of communal songs, traditional games, and Latvian folk dances led by Solveiga Mačiņa and Indra Štube.
The goal of the “Together at the Bread Table” event is to strengthen community ties, promote social cohesion and engagement, and foster a sense of local identity by creating a shared experience where traditional skills, creativity, and cooperation become the foundation of a new community tradition.
