The Liepāja 2027 Poetry Days event — the poetry concert “Opposite or Not?” — has taken place
On the evening of September 11, four poets, three languages, and contemporary jazz came together on stage at the “Wiktorija”. The poets — Sabine Huynh (France), Gökçenur Ç (Turkey), Gunta Šnipke, and Roberts Vilsons — participated in a collaborative exchange, blending their voices and styles.
The audience was able to experience how poetry from Liepāja has been translated into French and Turkish, while the works of foreign guests were recited in Latvian.
During the collaboration, each poet translated 10 poems by a fellow poet. They noted that this experience allowed them not only to gain a deeper understanding of one another but also to rediscover themselves in the process.
The evening was complemented by the contemporary jazz rhythms of Liepāja musicians—double bassist Henrijs Leijs, pianist Elza Marija Buša, and saxophonist Raimonds Leja-Andersons.
