The first round of this year’s Culture Projects Competition concluded at midnight on February 3, attracting 53 applications.
Following an evaluation process, 16 projects have been awarded financial support.
The selected initiatives include a range of cultural activities, with both events dedicated to Liepāja’s 400th anniversary, street art projects, concerts, festivals, and innovative collaborations merging art and technology. The approved projects will be implemented between March 1, 2025, and February 28, 2026.
The submitted applications were assessed by a panel of eight culture experts: Baiba Bartkeviča – Artistic Director of the European Capital of Culture 2027, Silva Vucena – Deputy Director for Development at the Liepāja Central Scientific Library, Ieva Dzintare – Representative of the Liepāja Museum, Aigars Kārkliņš – Head of the LOC Olympic Centre branch, Lelde Vīksna – Director of the Liepāja Puppet Theatre, Edijs Ābelis – Head of the Product Design Education Programme at the Liepāja Music, Art and Design High School, Dzintars Hmieļevskis – Head of Marketing and Communication Department at the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, and Nauris Lazdāns – Deputy Head of Liepāja Culture Department.
Marking Liepāja’s 400th anniversary, this year’s competition focused on initiatives that enrich a year-long cultural program, celebrating the city’s legacy while creating meaningful experiences for both residents and visitors. It seeks to cultivate a modern and intellectually enriching cultural scene, supporting diverse, high-quality artistic events and fostering the growth of the creative industries.
