On Sunday, August 23, a special atmosphere filled the premises of the Liepāja Lithuanian Society “Rūta” on Alejas Street in Liepāja – a concert featuring minority communities was held there, bringing together associations and ensembles of various nationalities to celebrate the diversity of culture, traditions, and friendship. The event took place as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” community programme, once again demonstrating culture’s ability to unite people and strengthen mutual understanding.
The following groups came together on one stage and delighted the audience with a variety of performances: ensemble “Senoliai” from the Liepāja Lithuanian Cultural Society “Rūta”; ensemble “Verbičeņka” from the Liepāja Ukrainian Society; “Živica” Slavic ensemble from the “Živica” Association in Saldus; ensemble “Bursztynki” from the “Vanda” Polish Association in Liepāja; ensemble “Morgenrot” from the Riga German Association; ensemble “Kurzemīte” from the Liepāja Social Services Day Center; ensemble “Zusammen Sein” from the Liepāja German Society, and ensemble “Jarilo” from the Liepāja “Unisons” Society.
Each ensemble brought its own unique atmosphere, language, and story to the concert. Resonant songs, vibrant dances, and heartfelt melodies allowed the audience to discover the richness and diversity of different cultures. Performances by Ukrainian, Polish, Lithuanian, German, Slavic, and other communities once again demonstrated how beautifully differences can bring people together and how much we have in common when we share our traditions.
“This concert was more than just a series of performances – it was a gathering, a conversation, and a time spent together, in which the cultures of different nations intertwined into a unified and heartfelt story. The event vividly demonstrated a simple yet important truth – to get to know the cultures and traditions of other nations, we must meet, listen, and be together!” says Ineta Timma, a representative of the Liepāja Lithuanian Society “Rūta”.
The project “Liepāja Open Cultural Courtyard” is organised by Liepaja Lithuanian Association “Rūta” and with financial support from the foundation “Nodibinājums Liepāja 2027.” The programme of “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” is implemented by the Liepāja 2027 Foundation, with funding allocated by the City of Liepāja, the South Kurzeme and Kuldīga municipalities, and the Ministry of Culture.
