On Monday, 13 April, at the Embassy of Latvia in Estonia, a presentation of the Liepāja 2027 programme and the Liepāja region’s tourism offer took place, bringing together cultural professionals, diplomatic partners, and representatives of the tourism sector.
The event was opened by the Ambassador of Latvia to Estonia, Kristīne Lauritsa. (un)rest programme was presented by Board Member on Artistic Work Baiba Bartkeviča.
The panel discussion featured Estonian–American artist and co-curator of the “Atmospheric Waves” festival, John Grzinich, Head of Programme Line at Tartu – European Capital of Culture 2024 and representative of the Goethe-Institut Tallinn, Jaan Ulst, co-curator of the “Embrace the Sound” programme and representative of “Dirty Deal Audio”, Kristaps Puķītis as well as Liepāja 2027 Artistic Director Baiba Bartkeviča.
The event concluded with a musical performance by Estonian–Latvian sound artist Eleonora Kampe, offering an insight into the programme event “Embrace the Sound”.

The project “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture” is implemented by the foundation “Nodibinājums Liepāja 2027” with funding provided by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, the City of Liepāja, and the municipalities of South Kurzeme and Kuldīga. The Liepāja 2027 programme is supported by its main partner in environmental education and sustainability, AS “CleanR Grupa” JSC; its main partner in mobility and international communication, AS “airBaltic Corporation” JSC; and its mobility partner, transport operator SIA “Lux Express Latvia” Ltd.
The refined and melodic character of Liepāja was brought to life by the singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer Shipsea. Meanwhile, the true spirit of (un)rest swept into the Telliskivi Creative City alongside the powerful and energetic sound of the folk-rock group Alum Alu.
On Thursday, 9 April, the Latvian Embassy in Vilnius hosted the international presentation of the “(un)rest” programme of “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027”, with a special focus on collaboration with Lithuanian artists and cultural organisations.
The foundation “Liepāja 2027” has announced an open, co-financed artistic competition, “Creation of Environmental Art Installations in Kuldīga and Aizpute”, welcoming artists and creative teams to join the creation of contemporary, sustainable environmental artworks in Kurzeme. Applications must be submitted by 1 June 2026 at 23:59.
