Liepāja 2027 Visits Riga to Celebrate the Capital’s 825th Birthday

17. August, 2026

On Saturday, 15 August, Liepāja 2027 visited Riga to join residents and visitors in celebrating the city’s festivities and to introduce the upcoming Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 programme.

Throughout the day, festival-goers had the opportunity to meet the Liepāja 2027 team, discover more about Liepāja as the future European Capital of Culture, and learn about the diverse cultural programme, which will begin in just a few months. In conversations with visitors, we shared information about the events planned for 2027 and the many opportunities to be part of the European Capital of Culture year.

Visitors to the Riga celebrations showed great interest in Liepāja and the upcoming programme, asking questions about the planned events and sharing their own impressions and experiences of Liepāja. Many expressed their intention to visit Liepāja next year to experience the European Capital of Culture programme first-hand and enjoy the city’s distinctive atmosphere.

Visitors also had the opportunity to try out our special balance bench, which attracted the attention of both children and adults throughout the festivities. Everyone was invited to put their sense of balance to the test, find the perfect balance together with others, and capture the moment in a photograph.

Taking part in the Riga celebrations was a wonderful opportunity to meet future visitors to Liepāja and invite them to come to the city in 2027 to experience its cultural programme, make new discoveries and enjoy memorable encounters.
Thank you, Riga, for the warm welcome – we felt very welcome! See you in 2027 in Liepāja – European Capital of Culture!
