Liepāja 2027 and ECOC Echo partners explore the long-term impact of the European Capital of Culture title
From 29 September to 1 October, representatives of Liepāja 2027 took part in an ECOC Echo project partner meeting in Chemnitz, Germany.
On Wednesday, 30 September, the Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 Supervisory Board held its latest meeting, during which Board members were updated on progress to date, the implementation of the programme and preparations for the key events of 2027. Particular attention was given to the opening programme for the European Capital of Culture year in January.
During the meeting, preparations for the announcement of the full Liepāja 2027 programme were discussed. The programme will be unveiled to the public on 9 October, offering an insight into the events and activities that will take place across Liepāja, South Kurzeme Municipality and Kuldīga Municipality in 2027.
The Supervisory Board was also updated on preparations for the opening weekend of the European Capital of Culture year, which will take place from 22 to 24 January. The meeting covered the readiness of the opening events and the work completed to date to ensure an ambitious and diverse start to the European Capital of Culture year.
Board members were also briefed on the overall implementation of the Liepāja 2027 programme, including preparations for upcoming events. Information was also provided on changes to the programme made in light of the available implementation budget.
With just three months remaining until the start of the European Capital of Culture year, the full Liepāja 2027 programme will be announced on 9 October, providing a broader overview of the cultural events and activities planned for Liepāja, South Kurzeme Municipality and Kuldīga Municipality in 2027.

On October 9, 2026, in Liepāja, as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme, an open-air photography exhibition titled “One Day in Liepāja 1987–2007 – 2025,” which, through images taken in three different years, will reveal the life of the city and its people over the course of half a century.
On November 4, the Great Amber Concert Hall in Liepāja will host the Liepāja 2027 international conference “Cultural Renovation”, held under the theme “All My Relations”. The third conference will be dedicated to community as an ever-changing network of relationships, with a special emphasis on how art and culture foster belonging, strengthen communities, and shape relationships with the place, fellow humans, the landscape, and other life forms.
