From 19 to 23 April, Izabella Džeriņa, Volunteer Coordinator at the foundation “Nodibinājums Liepāja 2027” (Liepāja 2027), took part in the international training course “Mental Health in Long-term Volunteering – Healthy Volunteers & Healthy Coordinators” in Leipzig, Germany.
The training focused in depth on strengthening the professional competences of volunteer coordinators, with particular emphasis on resilience to stress, its management, and a sensitive approach in their work. Practical pedagogical tools were also introduced for everyday use, helping to ensure the wellbeing of both volunteers and the wider team.
Given that international volunteers from the European Solidarity Corps programme will be hosted in Liepāja in the second half of this year and throughout 2027, this experience is especially valuable. The knowledge and methods gained will be applied in practice, fostering high-quality support, sustainable cooperation, and a positive environment for both volunteers and the team.
In February this year, the Liepāja 2027 volunteer programme “Mission (un)rest” welcomed new members, bringing the team to a total of 172 volunteers. The programme’s activities will continue until the end of 2027, so we encourage everyone to follow updates on the available opportunities for involvement.
