Liepāja 2027 invites local communities to join European Day celebrations through new microgrant initiative

23. February, 2026

The Liepāja 2027 Foundation has announced the launch of an open microgrant competition “The European Dream in Our Community!” fostering a community spirit and European identity. This initiative will engage local communities through interactive activities and creative workshops. Activities are restricted to a specific timeframe on 9 May, running from 12:00 to 16:00. These local contributions will form a part of the Liepāja 2027 European Day programme, centred in the square adjacent to the Great Amber Concert Hall at Jūras iela 11.

The primary objective of the competition is to spotlight nine residential districts of Liepāja: Dienvidrietumi, Ezerkrasts, Jaunliepāja, Jaunā pasaule, Karosta, Tosmare, Vecliepāja, Zaļā birze, and Ziemeļu priekšpilsēta. By highlighting the unique traits of these communities, the project aims to demonstrate the unity and cultural diversity of the city. Proposed activities must be interactive, offering practical experience that bridges the local neighbourliness identity with European values.

A total funding pot of 9,000 EUR has been allocated for the competition, with individual projects eligible for microgrants of up to 1,000 EUR. The competition is open to legal entities registered in the Republic of Latvia, including associations, foundations, and limited liability companies, provided they are not state or local government institutions. Natural persons registered as self-employed economic operators are also eligible for participation.

Applications must be submitted via the Liepāja City Municipality e-service portal epakalpojumi.liepaja.lv by 23:59 on 15 March 2026.

Prospective applicants can find the full competition rules and documentation at epakalpojumi.liepaja.lv.

The Europe Day project is organized by the Liepāja 2027 Foundation with a total budget of 28,306.44 EUR. This is supported by 16,000 EUR from the Liepāja City Municipality, 287.44 EUR from the South Kurzeme Region Municipality, 500 EUR from the Kuldīga Region Municipality, and 11,519 EUR from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia. Sustainability and environmental education efforts are spearheaded by the main partner AS CleanR Grupa (JSC), while the transportation company SIA Lux Express Latvia (Ltd) provides support as the official mobility partner.
