Today, May 14, the Liepāja 2027 office welcomed Johanna Pankow, an editor at the German newspaper “Lübecker Nachrichten”, who is currently working in Riga as a correspondent for the Baltic region.
Johanna is working on a feature about the Baltic Riviera – a story portraying the Baltic Sea coast as a unique destination, in which Liepāja is presented not only as a place with a distinctive seaside rhythm, bold architecture, and a unique identity, but also as the future European Capital of Culture 2027.
“During our conversation, I introduced the journalist to the (un)rest story of Liepāja 2027, which is shaped not only by a diverse cultural programme, but also by the unique sensations and experiences the city offers to both visitors and residents. We spoke about how the programme’s rich variety of events creates more than just highlights on the calendar; it builds a distinctive atmosphere where industrial heritage meets creativity, the calm of the seaside blends with vibrant cultural energy, and Liepāja’s singular identity naturally intertwines with ambitions on a European scale,” says Baiba Bartkeviča, Board Member on Artistic Works at the Foundation “Nodibinājums Liepāja 2027.”
“Liepāja has a rich history that provides a strong foundation for cultural events. This spirit is vividly reflected in the plans and projects of the Liepāja 2027 programme, including the “No More Heavy Metal” festival, the contemporary art festival “Liepāja Art Forum” and many others,” said Johanna Pankow following the meeting.
Journalist Johanna Pankow’s visit to Liepāja is being organised in cooperation with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) and the Liepāja Region Tourism Information Office.
