On Wednesday, April 15, film industry professionals and enthusiasts from Estonia gathered in Liepāja for an experience exchange visit, exploring potential film locations in Liepaja, sharing knowledge and coordinating project activities with representatives of the Liepāja and Latvian film sectors. The visit strengthened cooperation between film communities and supported the development of the film industry.
At the workshop, Katrīna Karple, Producer Assistant at “White Picture”; Paula Cukura, Social Impact Project Lead; and Ingrīda Nagle, Location Manager at “Location Unite,” shared their valuable experience and expertise.
Also, the agenda of the visit included tour of filming locations in Liepāja – both potential sites and those already featured in various film projects – such as the street networks of Vecliepāja area and the surrounding areas of Jaunliepāja: Baseina, 1905. gada, Tērauda, Metalurga, and Ferdinanda Grīniņa Streets. The scenic beauty and historic architecture of Karosta are attractive to representatives of the film industry, and the tour highlighted this microdistrict of Liepāja, exploring the stories of Karosta Prison and experiencing the majesty of the Baltic Sea at the Northern Forts of Karosta.
The FILMLINK project connects two film regions – Tartu (Tartu Film Fund) and Liepāja – by encouraging a deeper understanding of film culture and its social and economic impact on the growth of regional cinema. Through experience exchange, processes analysis and collaborating, a strong foundation is being built for a long-term cooperation within the Baltic film industry.
FILMLINK is a part of the “Cinema Dream” thematic strand of the Liepāja 2027 programme. The project is co-financed and implemented within the EU “Interreg Estonia-Latvia 2021-2027” programme and contributes to the growth of the creative industries in Liepāja.
