British tourism operators discover Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 program

16. April, 2026

On Wednesday, April 15, a representative of Liepāja 2027 participated in a Latvian tourism seminar organized by the Investment and Development Agency in Latvia (LIAA) at the Latvian Embassy in London, where British tourism industry professionals were introduced with the programme of events and tourism offerings for Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027.

Seminar participants – nearly forty British tour operators – gained a broad insight into the potential of Latvia as an attractive tourism destination. Liepāja 2027 events stand out particularly in this offering, creating a vibrant and unique destination identity. The event provided an insight into the diverse Liepāja 2027 programme, which will offer more than 500 events in Liepāja, South Kurzeme, and the Kuldīga region in 2027. The European Capital of Culture year will be officially opened on January 22, 2027, with events in the Kuldīga and South Kurzeme regions, followed by an extensive opening program in Liepāja on January 23, 2027.

To provide further insight into the destinations’ offerings, representatives from the LIAA, the national airline “airBaltic,” the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency, and the City of Jūrmala also held thematic presentations.

The event was also attended by Latvia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Atis Lots, while a musical performance by kokle player Ieva Tālberga featuring Latvian folk songs set a creative mood.

The aim of the seminar organized by the LIAA is to promote the visibility of Latvian tourism in the British market, strengthen cooperation with tour operators, and position Latvia – including Liepāja – on international travel itineraries.
The project “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture” is implemented by the foundation “Nodibinājums Liepāja 2027” with funding provided by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, the City of Liepāja, and the municipalities of South Kurzeme and Kuldīga. The Liepāja 2027 programme is supported by its main partner in environmental education and sustainability, AS “CleanR Grupa” JSC; its main partner in mobility and international communication, AS “airBaltic Corporation” JSC; and its mobility partner, transport operator SIA “Lux Express Latvia” Ltd.
