Applications are now open for the second cultural project competition of the year organised by the Liepāja Cultural Department, offering an opportunity to apply for financial support to implement significant, innovative projects of importance to the city’s cultural scene.
The competition invites participants from various fields of culture and the arts, including implementers of interdisciplinary and creative industry projects.
The aim of the competition is to support projects that develop a contemporary, intellectually rich cultural environment, provide high-quality and diverse content, and ensure the accessibility of both traditional and contemporary culture to a wide audience. Original creativity, interdisciplinary cooperation, and the potential to promote Liepāja’s cultural name on the international stage will also be valued.
At the same time, the competition is aimed at encouraging active public involvement, raising awareness of cultural values, and strengthening local non-governmental cultural organisations.
The priorities of this year’s second project competition focus on cultural activities and processes that offer new and innovative cultural ideas with the potential to stand out both in Latvia and internationally, as well as projects aimed at recognising, researching, and promoting Liepāja’s cultural values. Other priorities include the implementation of annual non-commercial events of importance to the city and its neighbourhoods, fostering the development of creative industries, organising educational activities – masterclasses, lectures, and seminars – and hosting international culture and art residencies in Liepāja.
Applications for the project competition will be open for two weeks – from 11 August until midnight on 25 August. Submitted projects will be evaluated by a jury, with results to be announced on 15 September.
The total funding for this year’s second project competition is €50,000, with the co-financing for a single project ranging from no less than €1,500 to no more than €4,000. An applicant may submit several projects, however, the total possible support for a single organisation is capped at €8,000.
The competition is open to legal entities registered in the Register of Enterprises of the Republic of Latvia, excluding municipalities or state institutions, municipal or state limited liability companies, including public derivative legal persons.
The project implementation period is set from 1 October 2025 to 31 March 2026.
