Liepāja Featured on Intrepid Travel’s 2027 Not Hot List
9 September 2026 – Liepāja, Latvia, has been named in Intrepid Travel’s annual Not Hot List, recognising ten of the world’s most exciting, under-the-radar destinations to watch in 2027.
The Liepāja 2027 Foundation invites professionals who shape the culture horizon in Liepāja, South Kurzeme and Kuldīga to submit their cultural and artistic initiatives to the Liepāja 2027 side programme, offering the opportunity to integrate existing events into the Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 programme.
The side programme aims to broaden public engagement and strengthen international cooperation by providing a platform for local, independent and informal initiatives. It is expected to bring together 30 to 40 events across Liepāja, the South Kurzeme region and the Kuldīga region, contributing to a more diverse and internationally connected cultural landscape.
Selected participants will have the opportunity to feature their events within the official Liepāja 2027 calendar. While the side programme does not provide financial support, it offers visibility, international context and inclusion within the wider (un)rest programme framework.
Applications will be accepted and evaluated in three rounds: by 1 June 2026, 9 November 2026 and 1 March 2027. All submissions will be reviewed by the appointed jury, and events that best meet the evaluation criteria will be selected for inclusion.
Applications must be submitted via the electronic form available on the Liepāja City e-services platform: epakalpojumi.liepaja.lv.
Further information about the open call is available here.
The (un)rest programme of Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 is implemented by the Liepāja 2027 Foundation, with funding allocated by the City of Liepāja, the South Kurzeme and Kuldīga municipalities, and the Ministry of Culture.
The Liepāja 2027 programme is supported by its main partner in environmental education and sustainability, AS CleanR Grupa, JSC; its main partner in mobility and international communication AS airBaltic Corporation; and its mobility partner, SIA Lux Express Latvia, Ltd.
