The project “Rocky Underground and the Broken Wave” (working title) is a series of events aimed at highlighting Liepāja’s alternative and underground culture, encouraging collaboration, co-creation and artistic innovation among young artists and musicians.
Bringing together representatives of various genres – from rock, metal and hip-hop to jazz, classical and electronic music – new compositions and cross-genre collaborations will be developed under the guidance of experienced musicians Jēkabs Nīmanis and Kārlis Tonis.
The project will culminate in a major concert featuring Liepāja’s young and underground musicians, presenting new works created through the collaborative process. The event series will also include the performance “How to Become a Liepājnieks?”, which will explore the city’s subcultures and spirit of (un)rest through the experiences of young people.
The project will strengthen Liepāja’s alternative cultural identity, create new opportunities for collaboration and support the development of the local music community, laying the foundations for long-term creative initiatives beyond the Liepāja 2027 programme.
