Conversations and Musical Discussion “Rebel Halt” – Mārtiņš Freimanis. Voice of Freedom

The project “Rebel Halt” is a series of two evenings of conversations and musical discussions exploring Liepāja’s rock music and alternative culture as significant expressions of freedom, creativity and identity. The project is designed as a lively dialogue between different generations, experiences and eras, highlighting Liepāja’s distinctive place in the cultural landscape of Latvia and Europe.

The first evening will be dedicated to the personality and creative legacy of Mārtiņš Freimanis. The discussions will explore Freimanis’ contribution to Latvian music and his influence on different generations. The conversation will be hosted by Maija Kalniņa, who, as a friend of Freimanis, will bring personal insights and an authentic sense of the era to the discussion.

She will be joined by Freimanis’ former bandmate, pianist Normunds Kalniņš, a former member of the band Tumsa. Maija and Normunds will share stories about their creative journeys and Freimanis’ role in them, as well as perform his songs.
The evening will also feature artworks by Vincenzo di Fraia and specially designed scenography inspired by Liepāja.
