In Karosta, Belgian scenographer Jozef Wouters is pairing up with the local community, nature, and history to give Lāčplēsis Garden a brand-new lease of life. They are crafting a multifunctional outdoor space meant for everyday play and lounging for local kids and their families. The project treats placemaking as a team effort, where the neighbourhood gets a real say in how their own backyard shapes up.
At the core of what Jozef Wouters and the “Decoratelier” team do is building scenes for shared experiences. These spaces don’t just appear out of thin air; they take shape through chats, yarn-spinning, and a bit of blue-sky thinking, turning into living, breathing spots that evolve alongside the community.
The project keeps its doors wide open for everyone, documenting every step of the journey while bringing both locals and visitors into the fold – proving that when it comes to shaping our urban landscape, we are all in it together.
