Outdoor Photography Exhibition “A Day in Liepāja 1987 – 2007 – 2025”

The association “Viena Diena.lv,” as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme, on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Jānis Čakste Square, 15 Alejas Street, Liepāja, will open an open-air photography exhibition titled “One Day in Liepāja 1987–2007–2025,” which invites visitors to explore the city and its people across three different eras. Alongside historical photographs of Liepāja, the exhibition will feature works created in 2025 during a photo workshop held as part of the international conference “Vision & Voices 2025.” The images will reveal the daily lives of Liepāja’s residents, the urban landscape, and the changes that have taken place over nearly 40 years, allowing visitors to encounter both a familiar and a previously unseen side of Liepāja.

The exhibition will be on public display through November 12, 2026.

“One Day in Latvia” is a unique photography event in which, over the course of a single day, photographers across the country work together to create a portrait of Latvia – capturing its people, work, daily life, cities, and countryside. The first event took place in 1987, and it was repeated in 2007 with the participation of professional photographers from Latvia and abroad, as well as thousands of amateur photographers. The images, taken twenty years apart, offer a glimpse into how Latvia and the lives of its people are changing, preserving everyday moments as historical records for future generations.

The next event will take place on August 27, 2027, and will also include “One Day in Liepāja.” Anyone interested can participate, helping to create a visual story of Latvia and Liepāja in their own time.

The outdoor exhibition “A Day in Liepāja 1987-2007-2025” is organised by association “Viena Diena.lv” as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme, with funding from the City of Liepāja, the South Kurzeme Municipality, Kuldīga Municipality and the Ministry of Culture.
