Liepāja 2027 and RTU Liepāja Academy Launch Lifelong Learning Series Classes

9. February, 2026

The Liepāja 2027 Foundation (Liepāja 2027), in collaboration with RTU Liepāja Academy, has launched a new lifelong learning course titled “5 Steps to a Good Event”. The programme forms part of the Liepāja 2027 capacity-building initiative and is designed to strengthen the professional skills of cultural workers, creatives and young specialists, while supporting the long-term cultural development of Liepāja, South Kurzeme and the Kuldīga region.

This lifelong learning series is structured as a clear, step-by-step process, offering practical knowledge and tools for creating and delivering cultural events. Classes will be led by experienced event management professionals who will share their expertise in cultural production, collaboration, project and process management, accessibility, audience engagement and working in an international context.

The series opens on 20 March from 14:00 to 18:00 with the class “From Idea to Event: Creative Production”, led by director and broadcast host Marta Selecka. Participants will explore the anatomy and planning of an event, script dramaturgy and resource management, while developing a practical event concept, risk map and script outline.

On 1 April, from 14:00 to 18:00, the programme continues with the workshop “From Idea to Event: Technical Production”, led by Mārcis Gulbis, Director of the Latvian Event Forum. The session will focus on event planning, resource management including budgeting, team and time management, safety considerations, technical production, as well as common mistakes and practical solutions.

The third class, “Inclusive Culture: Steps and Solutions”, will take place on 10 April from 14:00 to 18:00 and will be led by hearing-impaired culture expert and accessibility advocate Inese Immure. Participants will be introduced to the principles of universal design and the meaning of inclusive events, analyse best practice examples of accessibility solutions, identify common pitfalls and learn how to avoid them, and develop a concise accessibility plan for their own event or organisation.

On 17 April, from 14:00 to 18:00, participants will take part in the workshop “The Power of Community: Co-creation in Practice”, led by documentary theatre and film director and interdisciplinary artist Krista Burāne. The session will explore the concept of community and co-creation methods, examine examples from Latvia and across Europe, and guide participants in developing a community map and a prototype for a collaborative initiative.

The learning cycle concludes on 24 April, from 14:00 to 18:00, with the workshop “International Events: How to Build Partnerships and Reach Audiences”, led by interdisciplinary project manager Gundega Laiviņa. Participants will gain insight into international cooperation and networking, residency and joint project formats, criteria for selecting international partners, and will create a contact map along with a draft cooperation proposal.

All classes are designed as in-person sessions combining lectures, practical work and networking opportunities. They will take place at RTU Liepāja Academy, Room 317, Lielā iela 14, Liepāja. The programme is aimed at cultural professionals, representatives of the public and private sectors, educators and young specialists. Participation costs 60 EUR per individual class or 270 EUR for the full series of five classes. No prior knowledge is required, and upon completion participants will receive a certificate issued by Rīga Technical University. The course cycle is a flexible and evolving programme that can be further developed and expanded in the coming years in response to the needs of the cultural sector.

The project is implemented with the support of the EU Creative Europe program CreArt 3.0 #STRINGING_TOGETHER. The Liepāja 2027 Foundation is a partner in the project.
