An exhibition titled “Along the Way” is set to open on Thursday, May 9th in Liepāja. This showcase will feature the works of three artists – Sabīne Vernere, Andrejs Lavrinovičs, and Anna Franciska Beļāne – displayed in shop windows along the popular pedestrian street, Tirgoņu iela and will run until May 23rd.
“Along the Way” aligns with the core theme of Liepāja 2027: (un)rest. The exhibition’s curator Ieva Rubeze explains, “This inherent (un)rest is the driving force that propels us forward. And we are determined to direct this force right into the sails of our programme and with this exhibition, we invite both, local inhabitants, and city guests to rediscover Liepāja's unique paradoxes as we navigate towards the European Dream. We have great artists right here in Liepāja," she says. “By showcasing their work in shop, café and bank windows along Tirgoņu iela, a familiar path for many locals on their way to the city’s market, we hope to boost the community's confidence and inspire them along their way.”
Sabīne Vernere (34) is a Head of the experimental art space “Pilot” at the Art Academy of Latvia, and her work delves into the primal unrest and energy found in nature and humanity.
Andrejs Lavrinovičs (37) is a graphic designer and publisher with an independent publishing house “Popper Publishing”, he uses his piece "Atlantis" (2016-2024) to reflect on the driving force that motivates us to reach beyond our comfort zones and strive for more, either we call it ‘the carrot’, the ‘motor’ or ‘Greek goddess Nike’s vase’.
Anna Franciska Beļāne (24) is the youngest artist in the exhibition, a graduating student from the Visual Communication Department of the Art Academy of Latvia. Her witty installations explore the balance between rest and unrest, grounding ourselves while keeping our aspirations high.
Join the official opening ceremony on May 9th at 17:00 on Tirgoņu iela. Curator Ieva Rubeze will lead a walking tour to guide you through the exhibition. The exhibition will be on display from 9 to 23 May. Please follow the exhibition signs to see all the artworks.
This exhibition is co-financed by Liepāja City Municipality, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, and the European Union's Creative Europe project "CreArt 3.0 #STRINGING_TOGETHER."
