The establishment of the Steering Council for the “Liepāja 2027” Project has been officially decreed by the President of the Republic of Latvia

This Council is tasked with overseeing the planning and execution of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027 (Liepāja 2027)” project, as well as facilitating collaboration among the involved institutions.

Per the presidential decree, Minister of Culture Agnese Logina (P) has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Council. Joining her are members Minister of Finance Arvils Ašeradens (JV), Minister of Foreign Affairs Krišjānis Kariņš (JV), Minister of Economy Viktors Valainis (ZZS), Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Inga Bērziņa (JV), and Minister of Transport Kaspars Briškens (P).

Additionally, the Council comprises Iveta Strupkāja, Acting Director of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia; Evita Ozoliņa, Head of Administration of the Kurzeme Planning Region; Iveta Kažoka, Director of the Public Policy Centre “Providus”; Chairman of the Liepāja City Council Gunārs Ansiņš (“Liepājas Partija”); Chairman of the South Kurzeme Regional Council Aivars Priedols (ZZS); Chairman of the Kuldīga Regional Council Inese Astaševska (“Kuldīgas novadam”); and Adviser to the President on Communications Mārtiņš Drēģeris.

Furthermore, the decree mandates the Ministry of Culture to assume the secretariat functions of the Council.

The Council is slated to operate until July 1, 2028.
