Project Call for Activities at the Liepāja Central Scientific Library

Project Call for Activities at the Liepāja Central Scientific Library

To foster creativity, enhance collaboration, and bring fresh ideas to life, the Foundation “Liepāja 2027” is partnering with the Liepāja Central Scientific Library to announce a microgrant competition. This initiative invites individuals and organizations to host various events at the library on November 9 as part of the “Open the Library!” one-day campaign.

“In November, Liepāja Central Scientific Library will celebrate its 247th birthday – a remarkable milestone. Yet, despite its distinguished age, the library remains youthful and vibrant, reflecting the evolving currents of society. As the winds of (un)rest blow through, they push the library’s doors open even wider. We want to reaffirm the library’s role as a dynamic meeting place – a space for creativity and new experiences. We invite everyone to propose their own ideas for events to be part of this campaign,” says Silva Vucena, Deputy Director for Development of the Liepāja Central Scientific Library.

Event proposals we are looking for can span a wide range, including workshops, performances, concerts, readings, and more. The key is active participation – events should engage attendees in meaningful ways. Various spaces within the library at 7 Zivju Street are available for use, including outdoor areas, staircases, and even windows. While the format is flexible, the content should align with the library’s core focus areas: books, literature, reading, writing, information management, digitization, and related topics.

Speaking of funding details – a total of EUR 2000 is available for this initiative, with a maximum grant of EUR 400 per project. At least five projects will be funded. The deadline for submissions is 1 October 2024, and all activities must be carried out on 9 November 2024.

The call is open to a wide audience, including private individuals – such as visual artists, performers, designers, writers, researchers, activists, and more – and legal entities, like cultural organizations, associations, and creative industry companies.

On September 10, from 14:00 to 18:00, interested applicants are welcome to explore the library space and draw inspiration for their ideas, also taking time for Q&As. This is a great opportunity to see where your project could come to life and to ask any questions you might have.
