The Liepāja 2027 Foundation has officially launched a tender process for the development and full implementation of the concept for a landmark concert celebrating Liepāja’s 400th anniversary. Scheduled for 18 March 2025, the gala concert will be a key highlight of the city’s anniversary festivities, honouring its rich past while casting an eye towards its future. The event aims to unite the city’s residents and visitors in a celebration of resilience, creativity, and a spirit of innovation.
The concert will serve as more than just a commemoration—it will be an artistic expression of Liepāja's core identity. With its focus on the city's unyielding capacity for reinvention and creativity, the event will also align with the broader awakening (un)rest guiding principle of Liepāja as the European Capital of Culture 2027. It seeks to ignite the city's collective imagination and engage its people in shaping the vision for the next era of its development.
Baiba Bartkeviča, Artistic Director of Liepāja 2027, emphasized the concert’s symbolic significance: “The 400th anniversary gala concert will be a momentous occasion, not only to reflect on Liepāja’s past but to celebrate its creative essence and dynamic spirit. This event will inspire everyone to take part in driving the city forward, showcasing that Liepāja remains a place where creative (un)rest fuels progress. We envision this concert as a unique experience for both our residents and guests—one that reflects the city's identity and its exciting future.”
The concert will take place in the heart of the city, between the Trade Canal and Great Amber Concert Hall, with expectations to draw an audience of at least 10,000 attendees.
The performance, set to happen on 18 March 2025 will last approximately 90 minutes, and will be scheduled in coordination with other anniversary events, including the prestigious Honorary Liepāja Citizen of the Year Award ceremony and the much-loved Illuminated Liepāja Walk.
The estimated contract value for the project is EUR 200,000 (including VAT).
Submissions will be judged by a panel of jury based on a combination of cost-effectiveness and artistic merit, ensuring that the chosen bid delivers both an economical and high-quality production. The successful bidder must demonstrate the ability to manage a large-scale event with both creative and logistical expertise.
