In the 3rd quarter, the number of foreign guests in Liepāja increased by 16.6%.

Data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau and the Liepāja Regional Tourism Information Office show that the number of foreign guests staying in Liepāja accommodations grew by 16.6% in Q3 of this year.

In Q3 2024, Liepāja accommodations hosted 43,906 city guests, marking a 1.6% increase compared to the same period last year and an 18.7% rise compared to Q3 2019. The number of nights spent in accommodations increased by 5.8%, with a total of 81,545 nights recorded. The average length of stay in Liepāja accommodations during Q3 was 1.86 nights, an increase of 0.08 nights compared to the same period last year.

The average bed occupancy rate in Liepāja accommodations for Q3 this year was 45%, while room occupancy reached 53%. The highest occupancy rates were recorded in August, with 62.6% of rooms and 54.9% of beds occupied.

In Q3 2024, Liepāja accommodations served 23,149 Latvian tourists, who stayed for an average of 1.81 nights, 0.07 nights longer than last year. Meanwhile, 20,757 foreign guests stayed in Liepāja accommodations, a 16.6% increase compared to Q3 2023. The number of nights spent by foreign visitors rose by 20.1%, indicating longer stays, with an average length of 1.91 nights during the period.

Visitors from 81 foreign countries stayed in Liepāja in Q3 this year. The most frequent visitors were from Lithuania (9,287 overnight guests, +6.1%). Germany (3,242; +31.8%) and Estonia (1,356; +22.4%) also maintained strong positions. The top 10 countries included Poland (713; +44.9%), Finland (679; +13.2%), France (483; +56.3%), Denmark (448; -8.8%), the UK (422; +7.1%), the USA (415; +77.4%), and the Netherlands (390; +9.9%).

The Liepāja Regional Tourism Information Office served 6,374 visitors in Q3 this year. Of these, 21% were local residents of Liepāja, 19% were travelers from Latvia, and 60% were foreign guests. During the summer, the most frequent visitors to the Tourism Information Office were from Lithuania, Germany, France, the USA, and Poland.
