On 19 September, the coastal town of Pāvilosta will host the second Kurzeme Culture Forum at “Wonderland” (address: Ostmalas iela 5). Under the inspiring theme “CultureGROWTH. Facing the Future,” this event brings together seasoned and emerging cultural professionals, librarians, museum staff, private sector representatives, and NGOs, as well as anyone with a passion for culture.
“This is our second year hosting the Culture Forum, and it has evolved into a dynamic space for cultural professionals to connect, exchange ideas, and fuel each other’s creativity. Our goal is to create a haven where field people can recharge, and discover fresh inspiration. We warmly invite everyone who cherishes culture to join us in Pāvilosta for this enriching experience. See you in Pāvilosta!” says Linda Pričina, Head of the South Kurzeme Region Culture Department.
The forum will feature a lineup of guest speakers and thought-provoking sessions, including inspirational talks from Ieva Zemīte, Associate Professor and Director of the joint Master’s programme “Creative Industries and Growth Management” at the Latvian Academy of Culture and Rīga Technical University; Madara Merle, Programme Manager at the World Wide Fund for Nature Green Office; and choreographer Kristīne Brīniņa. Other speakers include Eva Ciekurze, board member of the “Liepāja 2027 Foundation”; Jana Vērdiņa, Head of the Department of Historical Lands and Intangible Cultural Heritage at the Latvian Intangible Cultural Heritage Centre; Evita Ozoliņa, Head of Administration of the Kurzeme Planning Region; and communication and awareness coach Zuarguss (Viesturs Dūle). The event will be moderated by Ģirts Vagotiņš-Vagulis.
Daina Vanaga, cultural event organiser from Vērgale parish, speaks about the forum’s purpose: “What is the state of contemporary culture in Kurzeme, and where are we heading? This year, we aim to inspire one another, challenging ourselves to reimagine our work from a different perspective, and to look ahead with renewed purpose.”
Key topics of the forum include an analysis of historical land competition data, the relationship between cultural events and environmental sustainability, the economic impact of culture, personal growth within the cultural sector, and reimagining the concept of creative cities and their networks.
The event is free of charge, but registration is required by 16 September, as places are limited.
The forum is organized by the South Kurzeme Region Municipality and co-financed by the “Liepāja 2027 Foundation.” Additional support is provided by the “Kurzeme Culture Programme 2024,” part of the SCCF target programme “Development Programme of Historical Latvian Lands.”
