Today, August 26th, the application process for the second project competition of this year, announced by the Liepāja Department of Culture, has begun. The goal of the competition is to promote cultural diversity, creative processes, active participation of residents, and the realization of innovative projects. This competition offers an opportunity to strengthen the cultural environment of Liepāja by supporting projects that enrich the city's cultural life and ensure broader access to arts and cultural events.
As 2025 marks the 400th anniversary of the city of Liepāja, one of the main priorities of this year’s second project competition is the organization of cultural events dedicated to the city’s birthday celebrations in March 2025. Additionally, a wide range of projects are welcome, including those providing local and international educational events in the cultural and creative industries sector, such as workshops, lectures, and seminars. Projects that promote the recognition and promotion of Liepāja's cultural values, the organization of annual non-commercial cultural and arts events, the establishment of international cultural and arts residencies in Liepāja, and the development of the creative industries sector are also encouraged. Innovative interdisciplinary ideas that highlight Liepāja on a national and international scale are particularly welcomed.
Projects can be submitted from August 26th until midnight on September 9th by filling out the electronic application form at www.kulturasprojektukonkurss.lv. Submitted projects will be evaluated by a jury consisting of eight members. The results of the competition are expected to be announced on September 26th.
The total funding for this year’s second project competition is 50,000 euros, with the allocated co-financing amount for each project ranging from a minimum of 1,000 euros to a maximum of 4,000 euros. An applicant can participate with multiple projects, but the total possible support for one organization is capped at 6,000 euros.
The competition is open to legal entities registered in the Register of Enterprises of the Republic of Latvia, which are not municipal or state institutions, municipal or state limited liability companies, or public derivative persons.
Before submitting a project, applicants are encouraged to carefully review the Cultural Project Competition regulations, ensure that their organization has no outstanding tax debts, and that all contractual obligations with the municipality and its institutions, including the payment of municipal taxes, are fulfilled.
