Aizpute Welcomes the Third Contemporary Dance Programme “Horos”

From 30 May to 9 June, Aizpute will host the contemporary dance programme “Horos,” offering local residents and town visitors the opportunity to engage with the artists and experience their performances.

The “Horos” season will begin and end with a series of contemporary dance performances by resident artists, alongside public presentations of the work completed during the residency. This year, Aizpute will become a residence venue for dance professionals from Latvia, Lithuania, Iceland, and France. The programme opens on 30 May at 20:00 at the Aizpute House of Culture with Sintija Siliņa’s performance “My Contract with Twilight,” created at “Ģertrūdes Ielas Teātris” in collaboration with playwright Evarts Melnalksnis.

“This year’s 'Horos' is first and foremost a time and space for contemporary dance artists to work on ideas for their new projects. Attendees will have the chance to learn more about the residents and their ongoing work. We invite everyone to join us on 8 June at 17:00 at the “Kurzeme” Club, where the artists will present the outcomes of their residency,” the programme representatives encourage the public.

The residency will conclude on 9 June at 17:00 at the Aizpute House of Culture with an evening featuring three short-form performances: Alise Madara Bokaldere’s “Translating My Eyes,” IevaKrish’s “Oblicus. An Architectural Skew Dance,” and “Sunset Again” by the Icelandic-French artist duo Inga Huld Hákonardóttir and Yann Leguay.

“Horos” is a long-term dance exchange programme initiated and run by the dance company “Tuvumi.” It aims to promote the development of contemporary dance and international networking through artist residencies, guest performances, and plays.

The programme and the residency are supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation in cooperation with Aizpute Culture House, the interdisciplinary art group "Serde," JSC "Kurzemes Atslēga," local "Lapka Hemp," Aizpute Art School, Aizpute Music School, the Association of Choreographers, and "Be Company."
