This week, the Liepāja Music, Art and Design High School (LMMDV) organized a painting and drawing symposium at the "Liepājas enerģija" combined heat and power plant (CHP) site on Kaiju Street 33. Throughout the day, more than 120 students from the high school and children's art school painted the heat energy production equipment and the industrial surroundings.
At the end of the symposium, an exhibition of the artworks created during the day was held in an improvised art gallery (in the wood chip storage area) on the CHP site. School teachers, exhibition visitors, and supporters evaluated the creative works and awarded prizes.
Teachers Ieva Rubeze, Uldis Rubezis, Egons Peršēvics, Kristians Brekte, Ilze Karlsone, Artis Bute, Dace Jegorova-Strazdiņa, Dzintra Budovska, Agnese Kaupere, and Andris Millers participated in the symposium alongside the students, preparing unique and conceptual tasks for them.
Creative symposia in unconventional environments are always particularly inspiring for aspiring artists and provide new impulses. Therefore, two years ago, a similar event was held in the former "Liepājas metalurgs" territory, and last year in the oldest fish processing plant area in Liepāja, “Kursa”.
