Young People Discuss Volunteering as a Career Start

25. February, 2026

On Wednesday, 25 February, the concert hall “Lielais dzintars” hosted a panel discussion titled “Volunteering and EU Projects as a Career Start: Young People’s Experiences in Europe” in the open lounge “Pietura”. The event was organised at the initiative of Timofejs Garkušs, a participant in the Liepāja 2027 volunteer programme “Mission (un)rest”, and featured young people with experience in the European Solidarity Corps and other international projects.

The discussion focused on how volunteering and participation in EU projects can serve as an important springboard for young people’s professional and personal development – improving communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills, as well as helping them gain a clearer understanding of their interests and potential career paths. Participants shared personal stories, discussed challenges, adapting to new environments, and the valuable lessons offered by cross-cultural experiences.

During the discussion, the audience asked questions and shared their own experiences, and after the event, the young people continued informal conversations for some time.

The panel discussion was organised by Foundation “Nodibinājums Liepāja 2027”. It was co-financed by the Liepāja City Council, South Kurzeme Municipality, Kuldīga Municipality, and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia. The main partner in environmental education and sustainability was “CleanR Group”, and the mobility partner was the transport operator “Lux Express Latvia”
