České Budějovice 2028 invites artists to create contemporary art for the urban environment

11. March, 2026

České Budějovice, the 2028 European Capital of Culture, in collaboration with the contemporary art festival “Umění ve městě”, invites artists from the CreArt network to apply for a three-week residency. The residency aims to enrich the festival programme by creating new artworks to be displayed in the city’s public spaces – streets, parks, and other urban landscapes.

This year’s festival theme is “Fragility”, exploring it as care, sensitivity, balance, or vulnerability in social, bodily, environmental, or other contexts.

Funding and conditions

  • Application deadline: 10 April 2026
  • The residency is open to individual artists, artist collectives, and interdisciplinary groups from the CreArt network.
  • Residency support: artist fee of up to 2000 euro, production and realisation costs, travel expenses, and other benefits.
  • The residency lasts up to three weeks and is planned for May–June 2026. The exact schedule will be agreed individually with the selected artist.
