The celebrations of Liepāja’s 400th anniversary begin with a concert at St. Trinity Cathedral

Marking the beginning off Liepāja’s 400th anniversary celebrations, the sacred music concert “Through Light It Comes, and Silver Forms” filled the Liepāja Holy Trinity Cathedral on Saturday night, March 1st.!
The concert featured new compositions by renowned composers with deep ties to Liepāja—Ēriks Ešenvalds, Jānis Lūsēns, and Andris Kontauts—alongside historic musical pieces from the cathedral’s archives. Under the artistic direction of choral conductor Ilze Valce, the program aimed to create a sense of festive joy and elevation, blending sacred cultural heritage with the evolution of contemporary church music.
As a special tribute to the city’s milestone anniversary, the concert premiered original works by these celebrated composers, bridging generations through music.
