The capacity-building program masterclass “The Samaritan’s Seed” has taken place

As part of the Liepāja 2027 supported masterclass program, on January 25 and 26, the workshop “Samaritan Binding” led by Estonian artist, bookbinder, and restorer Tulvi Turo took place at the Salons Mākslas Lāde in Liepāja.
Participants had the opportunity to learn about Tulvi Turo’s work and innovations in bookbinding in Estonia and beyond. The workshop included insights into the historic “Samaritan Book” – a 12th-century binding pioneer – and practical sessions where participants crafted two unique bindings.
The project aims to engage artists from Liepāja and South Kurzeme in creating original book bindings, fostering creative collaboration with artists from neighboring countries and Latvia. The works will be exhibited in Liepāja, South Kurzeme, Kuldīga, and later in Lithuania and Estonia.
Thank you to everyone who participated and special thanks to Tulvi Turo for this inspiring and valuable workshop!
